3. Severely M entally Retarded C hildren’s Service
The developm ent o f the project jo in tly sponsored
by the D ivision o f Service and seven Christian service
agencies and churches is m ost encouraging.
The Junk Bay Medical Relief Council agreed to
convert the Sunnyside Preventorium to the Sunnyside
C hildren's Hostel as recommended by the J o in t Manage-
m ent Com m ittee in June last year (1976). Im m ediately
the service was increased from 10 beds to 15 beds.
The Project plans to increase to 30 beds this year, and
in 1979 to expand to its m axim um service fo r 50 child-
ren.
To meet this expansion, an experienced nurse,
Miss Caddy H ui, has been sent abroad fo r training.
Last November, Miss Randi Kvernhaugen o f Norw ay
started her service as Supervisor o f the Hostel.
We are grateful to see th a t the Project has achieved
its main purpose to stim ulate co m m u n ity concern fo r
and dem onstrating a need o f services fo r the severely
m entally retarded children o f our co m m u nity. G overn-
m ent has approved a sum o f H K $ 1 20,000 as a sub-
vention fo r the project this year.
On behalf of the participating agencies and
churches the Christian Council wishes to express its
hearty thanks to m any churches, service agencies,
groups and individuals fo r the ir support.
