5. College Student Work Projects
There were 180 college students assisted by
this programme during the school year 1976/77. Each
student w orks eight hours a week and receives H K $200
per m onth. Because o f the increased living costs, this
am ount is to be increased to H K $220 per m onth.
College students are placed in 80 com m u nity
and social service organizations as tutors, librarians,
yo u th club leaders, clerical w orkers and so fo rth . This
programme is supported by Church W orld Service, the
U.S. A id fo r Refugee M igration o f the Am erican
Consulate General, the W orld Council o f Churches
and the R otary Club o f K ow loon N orth.
6. Christian Service Tour Programme
There are tw o types o f to u r programmes - the
ongoing tours to Church related volun ta ry services
projects and the special summer tours fo r young people.
The regular Christian Service Tours aim to expose
adults to the variety o f w o rk carried on by the
Churches. A large percentage o f those taking the tours
have been social w orkers, civil servants, college p ro -
fessors, tourists and oth er professional people.
For yo u th , the "K n o w Y o u r C o m m unity T o u r"
has proved very popular. These tours operate five days
a week during the tw o summer m onths. They were
firs t offered in 1974. Last year the participants totalled
over a thousand students. This led to the decision to
repeat the tours again in 1977.
