2. Church and Industry
The concern for industry is expressed by the
Christian Industrial Committee. The year 1976/77
saw the inclusion into the Legislative Council of per-
sons with strong labour union background, and the
provision of cash assistance to the unemployed. Both
are goals for which the Christian Industrial Committee
has been working.
During the year, 54 evening courses were offered
on organizing skill, labour legislation, industrial safety,
economics, sociology, history and religion. Each course
varies from 4 to 13 weekly sessions. Enrollment per
course varies from 20 to 80. Ninety percent, of the
participants are factory workers with an age average
of 21. The educational and leisure levels of workers
are going up. And the need to know one’s rights is
especially felt by more and more workers. As acknow-
ledged leaders in labour education, we face a great
opportunity to expand the service.
