4. Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
An estim ated 2,000 Christians participated in
the 1977 Week o f Prayer fo r Christian U n ity. It was
fe lt th a t this year’s celebration reached the grass-roots
o f the com m u nity and had a deeper im pact fo r u n ity
than before. The Jo in t C om m ittee on the Week of
Prayer fo r Christian U n ity was chaired by the Rev. Fr.
Harold N aylor.
The celebrations included 7 D istrict Prayer Ser-
vices, a Praise in W orship Service and the P ulpit
Exchange involving nearly 30 churches. The increase
this year in the P ulpit Exchanges assured its co n tin -
uance as a part o f the annual celebration.
The special pu blication fo r the Week o f Prayer
fo r Christian U n ity enjoyed a big demand. 11,000
copies were sent in answer to requests fro m churches
and schools.
A new item this year — the Essay C om petition
— d i d n o t come o ff so w ell. The response and q u a lity
was n o t encouraging. However the com m ittee hopes
it w ill do better another year.
Financial support fo r the celebration comes fro m
collections and donations. The d e fic it this year was
small. The com m ittee is grateful fo r a special c o n tri-
bution o f H K $ 3 ,769.25 fro m an Ecumenical Fund.
This co n trib u tio n is to help fu tu re Christian U n ity
week observances.
