out Christian Conference of s i a n s Youth training programme and
helped organize an Asian Student Conference.
The Youth and Student Office is directed by a committee
consisting of youth leaders from member churches and agencies.
The Chairperson is Ms. Tsang Kit Fong and Vice-Chairperson
Mr. Poon Kai Leung. Full time staff assistance is by the
Rev. Ralph Lee.
It has been three years since the Christian Council started
this office. It seems timely now to evaluate its work, its function
and its future policies.
INDUSTRIAL MISSION
A new and important emphasis, labour evangelism, has been
added to the work last year. Four gospel camps were held. Each
camp had 25 workers and 2 days of discussion, Bible studies,
lectures and worship. A regular open Bible study was given every
Thursday and a Sunday evening workers fellowship with a regular
attendence of twenty-five workers. In addition, the Committee
published a book on Christianity designed for a worker audience.
It received a number of good reviews and has, since September,
sold 2 ,000 copies. Retreats were also conducted for Christian
workers. Much of the programme should be regarded as experimental.
Nevertheless, they represented a geniune breakthrough in our attempt
to confront workers with the claims of Jesus Christ.
Labour Education has remained one of our most important jobs.
Last year, evening courses.were offered covering labour law, organi-
zing skill, economics, psychology, sociology, religion etc. Each
course consists of 4 to 12 weekly sessions of 2 hours in duration.
Average enrolement per course was 30 persons, 90% of whom are
factory workers between 18 to 26 years of age. Five church agencies
have also run similar courses in partnership with us.
