800 YOUNG PEOPLE from 8 to 25 years of age meet throughout
the month at our Tsimshatsui Social Service Centre for social
and recreational activities to do their homework, to develop
healthy hobbies and interests through group activities
organized by themselves.
1,400 young people, male and female, are enrolled at our
KWUN TONG VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE in one of the 16 courses
providing them with a useful skill and the spirit of good
citizenship.
The WELFARE AND COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT provides
Counselling to individuals, couples or families. Social
workers are available tc schools, to work with problem pupils
in cooperation with parents and teachers. The child learns
to accept restrictions, organize his/her life as far as school
work is concerned and learns meaningful ways to cope with
stress.
Our FOSTER CARE PROGRAMME is based on the belief that each
child has a right to a place within a family, to security,
affection and loving care. This project sees its function in
bringing together children with families willing and suitable
to become foster parents. At present, 20 children have found
such parents. Many more foster homes are needed 。
0ur LEI CHENG UK FRIENDLY CENTRE provides a great variety of
services to about 2,000 people each month. The services
provided are: Recreation for children, youth and adults;
vocational courses to adolescents; informal education through
friendship and interest groups; outreach to young people
exposed to social temptations and pressures and a library
which is available to its members and is frequented by
hundreds of youngsters each day.
