Films are not cheap. A life-of-print lease for a thirty minute
color film costs HK$1,500 to HK$2,000. An equivalent amount
must by spent to make the Cantonese soundtrack for use in our
churches. Thus we pay twice as much as stateside churches for
films in Chinese. But we have kept our prices of rental low,
even giving discount. A film for which a stateside church
rents for HK$100 is provided at the low amount of HK$20. If
a discount is given, it is as low as HK$10.
Since we have discontinued our projectionist services, we have
trained users to operate projectors. We must trust them as
good stewards. But sometimes films come back so badly damaged,
that they must be withdrawn from our catalogue. This means
other churches and schools who may want the film are deprived
s
of it. The Council' potential income is also lost. So we
are continuing to hold training workshops for projectionists
in order to protect the investment in Bible, religious, and
educational films.
Workshops
Workshops for training representatives from churches and schools
in operating electronic equipment have been an important part
of the Commimications Department's programme this year. Most
churches and schools own public address or PA systems. Poorly
operated systems can frustrate meetings. Therefore we have
conducted two PA System workshops in co-cperation with the
Canada Communications Limited, each extending over 3 weeks.
A total of 62 persons enrolled and 52 were finally graduated
with certificates.
Operation of movie projectors is another important skill for
our churches and schools. The Council! s Connnunicatiion
Department has conducted 5 projectionist workshops which were
attended by 124 . This means that in all its workshop, the
Communications Department has trained nearly 200 persons
