IV. DIVISICN OF MISSION
There are four ongoing concerns within the Division of Mission:
Youth and Student, Industrial Mission, Scholarship, and Education.
The first two are operational and have respective boards. The work
of the entire division is advised and supervised by a Committee of
four chaired by the Rev. Li Ping Kwong.
YOUTH AND STUDENT UNIT
The Youth and Student Unit has one full-time staff. Its basic
thrust is to develop leadership and broaden awareness among
Christian young people. In the year under review, the Unit or-
ganized two Asia tours for 40 youth leaders, two workshops on
writing and music for 67 persons, served concerts, prayer services,
retreats, and study groups. Some of these were expressions of
concern for South Vietnam and South Korea. The Unit has some
international links, with the International Christian Youth
Exchange, World Student Christian Federation, the Ecumenical
International Work Camp, and the Youth Programme of the Christian
Conference of Asia.
Two positive things can be said of the Unit. It has provided an
emphatic youth perspective to the thinkings of the Christian
Council, or at least its staff, thus increasing the realities of
youth participation. Secondly, the Youth Unit, because of its
ecumenical connections, both local and overseas, was instrumental
in bringing to the awareness of some youth leaders in our churches
the social and spiritual issues in many Asia countries. Through
the circulation of information and ecumenical meetings and prayer
services, the Unit has helped shaped a new spirituality among
many of our young.
There are also some question marks. The Youth Unit has a core group
of Christian young people in fellowship. But it is legitimate to
ask whether it should reach out for more contact among our churches
