The first camp drew a full 28 fee-paying industrial workers
with counsellors drawn from different churches. At the con-
clusion, 16 expressed desire to learn more i n a regular
Tuesday bible study group. Another started an informal bible
study group in her factory during lunch hours. The next camp will
be on July 12 and 13. A book to explain Christianity to workers
will soon be published by this Committee。
A short coming of the Committee is its inadequate communication
to churches. Although its primary object is to minister to
industrial workers, it does not seem to have given priority to
helping congregations in their outreach to low-income groups.
SCHOLARSHIP
Overseas Scholarship opportunities, mainly for theological studies,
were notified direct to member churches and through the Christian
press. There were a number of enquiries but no applications.
Among the reasons: one has to apply in advance of 18 months, the
process is tedious, theological places are available locally.
EDUCATION
Concern for education took the form of regular contacts with
various educational bodies. There is no programme yet until
later in the year with a big seminar on Christian Education on
the occasion of Education Sunnday.
Looking back, some useful work was carried out in the year under review
although a lot more could have been done. One possible reason is that
apart from the Youth Unit and Industrial Mission which have their own
full-time staff, there is no staff with a general mission portfolio.
