Audio Visual Evangelism Committee
The work of AVEC has continued its steady growth through the
year of 1969. Its work has included the film library, the
filmstrip library, advice on electronic equipment, servicing
projectors and public address systems, cooperative work with
the South East Asia Curriculum Editorial Board and the Chinese
Christian Literature Council in the publication of teaching
pictures, continued planning for the Chinese Christian radio
broadcasts through the South East Asia Radio Voice (SEARV),
assisting in production of local religious programs in both
English and Chinese for the whole Christian population - Roman
Catholic and Protestant, and organizing workshops and seminars
in the areas of visual aids and communications. AVEC has tried
to be a supporter of the congregations in their work of mission
and evangelism rather than to set up a competing program of its
own. Here are a few statistics.
The Film Library is our oldest department. AVEC's film
library was called upon on an average of more than 3 times o
every day. The films were borrowed by nearly one thousand
churches and schools and organizations. These nearly thousand
borrowers used over one thousand six hundred separate film titles.
On an average there were about 5 AVEC film titles being shown
every day of the year in 19691
Though the committee’ public service showings were reduced
s
by 11 showings, the total usage increased by 26 over 1968, rising
from 961 users in 1968 to 987 in 1969. Likewise the total number
of titles shown rose from 1,578 in 1968 to 1,615 in 1969.
Filmstrips also showed increase usage in 1969. Whereas in
1968 there were 534 titles used, in 1969 there were 653 titles
loaned out.
MON-COUNCIL MEMBERS: Our service to groups which are not members
of the Hong Kong Christian Council also increased. In 1968 there
were 2^5 film loans to such groups. In 1969 this increased to
318. These groups make up about one third of our clients. The
non-council groups make up nearly one half of our borrowers of
filmstrips. We are pleased by this opportunity to serve these
people and our common Lord.
WORKSHOPS: The V.A. workshops were not as numberous in 1969 as
had been hoped. There were only two in the area of visual aids.
Both, of these were held in November. The total attendance was
thirty-two. In Broadcasting, there was a four session joint
workshop carried out with the Roman Catholic Youth Council.
These were held in the summer. In the month of December, the
department helpedisorganize a Christian Communications Seminar
held at the Hong Kong Hyatt Hotel. A later two day seminar on
Communications was jointly sponsored with the Roman Catholic
Church in January 1970. This was held at Caritas House.
SEARV broadcast planning carried on through the year. The
SEARV Directorate met in Hong Kong in September. Signal tests
