One mean of dealing with the issue of development is
through an Ecumenical Loan Fund - a fund which w i l l lend money
to churches for capital development on the one hand and to
development projects on the other.
The Hong Kong Ecumenical Loan Fund Committee has been
appointed, a oonstitution drafted and submitted to the ECLOF
Foundation in Geneva for comment. It is hoped that the
w
loan fund i l l be begun in the fall of this year with
HK$l20,000.00
The concern for development is being carried out in a
number of ways, but primarily between a Joint Development
Committee made up of representativesfrom the Christian Council
and the Roman Catholic Church. Contact is also maintained
with the Community Development Committee of the Hong Kong
Council of Social Service.
Conclusion
The Council through the Division of Inter-Church Relations
seeks to relate churches in ways that will strengthen them
individually, make them more effective in mission, and manifest
the unity which Christ has given and is giving his Church.
Within this general understanding staff and committee will plan
and carry out specific projects to accomplish these purposes.
B. DIVISION FOR EDUCATION AND COMMUNICATION
The Division for Education and Communication is concerned
with the equipping of Church members for their part in the
churches task. The main committees in this division are Christian
Education, which until now is mainly concerned with training
church members, and the Audio Visual Evangelism Committee which
provides material for educational use. Both committees have
reference to the wider community as well as the Church. Education
must be concerned with the development of the mental, physical
and spiritual capacities of all people throughout the community,
and the Audio Visual Evangelism Committee must be concerned with
the impact of mass media on everyone's understanding of life.
Christian Education Committee
For the purpose of a better understanding and greater
cooperation with the Government Education Department in the area
of religious education, the Education Committee of the Council
sponsored a Consultation on Religious Education and invited Dr.
So Chung-jen, Senior Education Officer to meet representatives
of the Churches and some Christian schools to discuss matters of
mutual concern. This took place on Tuesday, March 21, 1972 at
5:00 p.m. at the Conference Room of the Council. 60 people from
the churches and Christian middle schools participated.
