VI INTER CHURCH AID
The Hong Kong Christian Council and the Hong Kong
Christian Service appealed to the local.Christian Community
for supporting a service project called "Me r c y Ship" to load
a ship with clothing and other surplus goods for the refugees
from E. Pakistan now in India. The response from the churches
has been enthusiastic, and we have received to date HK$7,223.55
and 6000 lbs of used clothing. All these clothing has been
turned over to the Hong Kong Red Cross which acts as liaison
between Hong Kong and India. The HKCS is handling the funds
received. We are grateful for the support of the churches
for this project.
VII. VISITS OF CHURCH LEADERS FROM OVERSEAS
During the year, the Council had the privilege of meeting
church leaders from five continents and had opportunities
of sharing views, opinion, and experiences with each other and
to discuss matters of common interest and concern.
VIII. WORKS OF THE DIVISIONS AND COMMITTEES
A. DIVISION OF INTER-CHURCH RELATIONS
The Division of Inter-Church Relations is directed
towards the Church itself and its understanding of its
task. It aims to achieve closer unity among the
denominations and considers matters of faith and
organization that will further unity.
LOOKING FORWARD
"When churches share in some common life, and witness
and act together, a new ecclesiastical reality appears -
not in the council as an organization - but among the
member churches as they share this ecumenical experience,
s
through the council’ instrumentality." This statement
comes from the report of the W o r l d Council of Churches
sponsored Consultation on National Councils held last
summer in Geneva, to consider the role and place of
National Council today. It asserts that, when churches
act together in mission, a dimension of the church
becomes reality that is not present when each acts separately.
