IV. COOPERATION WITH GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS

During the year, the Council had the privilege of
working together with Government departments such as City
District Offices, the Education Department, Labour
Department, and Information Services by providing information
on Church activities and expressing our views on social
                     issues.

At the request of the Government Information Services
the Council supplied information on the activities of the
Protestant churches in Hong Kong which was included in the
chapter on Religion of the Hong Kong Annual Report 1971.

                V. PARTICIPATION IN ECUMENICAL CONFERENCES

During the year, the Council appointed representatives
to participate in the following ecumenical conferences:

                       1. World Assembly of the World Council of Christian
                            Education 8th - 21st July 1 9 7 1 in Peru, Latin America.
The Rev. Man Kwok Wai attended this Assembly as the
                            Hong Kong delegate.

                       2. The World Consultation on Christian Councils was held
during June 28 - July 7, 1971 in the Headquarters of
the World Council of Churches, Geneva, Switzerland.
One hundred persons represented 66 NCCs participated
in the Consultation. Rev. R. Turnipseed and Calvin
Ngai appointed by the HKCC attended the Consultation.

Main purpose of this Consultation was to enable
people from NCCs around the world to discuss the aims
and goals of the ecumenical movement to-day, and the
place of Christian Councils in the total task of the
Qhurch in the 70s. We soon found that the problem
which confronted the NCCs are very much similar and
it is very difficult to give any short form of words
to describe "the present situation of the ecumenical
movement" which would be true for all parts of the world.
It was recommended that strong emphasis should be on
the building up appropriate and flexible structures
of local ecumenism, as the veritable base for the
                            ecumenical movement.

                       3. Dr. Chullikal, Executive Secretary for the Development
Commission of the Roman Catholic Church, Vatican,
                            visited Hong Kong during 1st - 3rd September 1971.
The Hong Kong Joint Committee on Development had
opportunities to meet and discussed with Dr. Chullikal
on questions of common interest and concern.

                       4. A Chinese Christian Broadcasters’Conference sponsored
