GENERAL SECRETARY'S REPORT
" Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will s a y 9 Rejoice.”

Although the Apostle Paul was suffering from imprisonment in Rome,
seperation from his fellow Christians and friends, and worrying about
various church problems, yet his heart was filled with thanksgiving,
joy and hope. He was able to share his experience to members of the
Church of Philipi and to encourage them to be Rejoice.
When we began to prepare this Annual Report and to review the
work of the Hong Kong Christian Council over the past year we recalled
our experiences of frustration, disappointment and sometimes suffering
from a lack of clear direction. Yet, when we think of Christians
gathering to praise the Lord at the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity,
to sing the theme song "T h e r e 's A World Out There" at the World Day of
Prayer Service, the ga thering of over two hundred Christian principals
and teachers to seriously discuss Church involvement in education, the
union of the two Methodist churches, and the Lutheran World Service
becoming a department of the Hong Kong Christian Council, we rejoice!
Let's look at some high-lights of the activities of the Council.
1. "JESUS CHRIST FREES AND UNITES"
Over 2,300 people, representing the Christian churches and
national councils of churches in the world, gathered in Nairobi,
the capital of Kenya, Africa, to celebrate the 5th Assembly of the
World Council of Churches. Hong Kong's representatives were from
The Church of Christ in China (Hong Kong Council), the Anglican
Church in Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Christian Council. They joined
in fellowship with Christian friends from all over the world.
Together they struggled to understand the meaning of the Assembly
