is encouraged while at the same time more leaders
of church and denominations, and Christian organiza-
tions are involved for diologue and joint planning
and action.
Ecumenical Relationship
We celebrate the possibility that the two Methodist
churches in Hong Kong may be united in 1974. We are
still awaiting with patience and hope that greater
unity among the churches may be achieved. However,
we rejoice over the increased mutual support and
co-operation between the Roman Catholic Church and
many Protestant Churches. The deep sense of loss over
the death of Bishop Hsu as felt by many Protestant
Church leaders showed the deep relationship that has
already been established.
Social Responsibility
For the first time, the leaders of the Churches were
asked to be the mediator in an "industrial" dispute.
This is not accidental but rather a result of the
involvement of churches in social problems thus
winning the trust and confidence of society. The
image of Christianity is more being involved in the
daily life of the people than escaping from reality.
Local Financial Responsibility
As churches and Christian organizations are becoming
more and more financially independent from overseas
resources, more local supports are being sought.
Local people are taking more financial responsibility.
This will be more and more the trend.
Concern for Asia and Africa
Hong Kong has been receiver of overseas funds for its
development for a long time. Now it is time for Hong
Kong to show its care for its suffering neighbours.
