                  F. Sudden Death of Bishop Francis Hsu

No word can describe the deep sense of loss felt by the
Commimity in Hong Kong and especially by the churches

when they learned the sudden passing away of the Most
Rev. Francis Hs u , Bishop of the Diocese of Hong Kong of the
Roman Catholic Church. As pointed out by Bishop Gilbert

Baker - "I believe that he bad a very special love and
concern for our community here in Hong Kong. As he
often said the role of the Church is to be a peacemakers

and we just go on, without conditions, even thought it may
seem to be a loss of face . He was a fearless Christian who
did not worry about popularity; and as events showed he

was tireless and faithful to death in the service of our
                       Lord".

                  G. Church Leaders to he Mediator in Teachers' Strike

Those church leaders, the Most Rev. Francis Hsu, the Rt.

Rev. Gilbert Paker and Dr. Peter Wong were asked by the
teachers to act as Mediator between the Government and
teachers in their salary dispute. Through their effort,

                       the dispute was settled.

             III. AN INTERPRETATION

On looking back, we can see very clearly several aspects
of the life of the church emerging gradually.

                     A . The Council

There will be greater intergration within itself with more
effective use of resources. Also attempts are being made

to achieve self-support at least in the sphere of
                          administration. More grass-root church participation
