Church News editors - both Roman Catholic and Protestant, to share
information locally so that the total Christian community may
be get acquainted with itself. The AVEC office is the assembly
and circulation center.
During the year, AVEC was involved in many ecumenical meetings.
The staff was involved in leadership or assistance at the Council
sponsored Church Consultation for 1970, the Unity Octave Services
1970, a Communications Seminar sponsored jointly with the Roman
Catholics, four Visual Aids teaching sessions for Roman Catholic
teachers * lectures for the YMCA Training Institute, exhibit at
the Lutheran Mass Media Seminar and participation by invitation in
the Roman Catholic Diocesan Convention’s Communications discussions.
Overseas Involvement
Two of our technical staff attended a Film Evangelism workshop
in Tokyo. The office assisted Asian Christian Service in the
publication of a 64-page booklet - "Fragments of War". This was
also shipped around the world from the AVEC office.
Visual Aids Department
Twelve film preview sessions were conducted from June though
November to acquaint middle and primary school teachers with he
new Coronet educational films in the library. In addition to the
nearly 160 educational films, eight other religious films were
added to the library. Four major films were dubbed into Cantonese
in 1970 and another major one was done with narration. Film
usage is still good. We average of about 5 titles are shown
every day of the year. Filmstrips average about 2 titles every
day.
Technical Department
The technical department is broadening its services to the
general public. We now do general repairs for radios, P.A. systems,
movie projectors and tape recorders. The use of the translation
system totaled 9 times during the year. The department was also
called upon to furnish the use of a P.A. system.
Broadcasting
With the exception of English Midday Prayers, Words and Music,
and Crossroads, all religious broadcasts are now on Radio Hong
Kong's FM service. The South East Asia Radio Voice, of which the
Council is a member, finally began test broadcast in December of
1970. These are broadcast every evening from 9 to 10 p.m. local
time. The broadcasts are made up of programmes produced in Taiwan,
Hong Kong and other participating Chinese Council related groups
in South East Asia.
The SEARV ad hoc committee, headed by Mr. Calvin Ngai, our Hong
Kong directorate member, is still searching for a qualified man to
become the Director of the Chinese Programming for SEARV. Applications
and suggestions are welcomed.
