DIVISION FOR EDUCATION AND COMIUNICATIQN
The Division for Education and Communication is concerned
with the equipping of Church members for their part in the
churches task. The main committees in this division are Christian
Education, which until now is mainly concerned with training
church members, and the Audio Visual Evangelism Committee which
provides material for educational use. Both committees have
reference to the wider community as well as the Church. Education
must be concerned with the devolopnient of the mental, physical
and spiritual capacities of all people throughout the community,
and the Audio Visual Evangelism Committee must be concerned with
the impact of mass media on everyone's understanding of life.
Christian Education Committee
Between April 1, 1970 and March 31, 1971, the Christian
Education Committee met ten times, with an average attendance of
eight. At the beginning of the year the Rev. Paul Hsu was
chairman. Following his resignation in June, Dr. Andrew Hsiao
was elected chairman, with Mr. Arthur Wu serving in his temporary
absences from Hong Kong 。
On May 26 a consultation was set up to consider Christian
Education needs in Hong Kong. Eighteen persons participated,
discussing the present situation, and what should be done next 。

At the request of the Committee, the Hong Kong Christian
Council designated the fourth Sunday in September as Christian
Education Sunday. In preparation for this a poster contest was
set up, in which 49 students participated. The winning design
was used on 400 large-size posters, and 7 ,600 bulletin covers.
A total of 23 churches used 6,750 bulletin covers. A program
of dedication for Sunday School teachers and leaders in other
programs of the church, was provided to the churchos.
The Hong Kong Christian Kindergarten Teachers' Association,
under the chairmanship to Miss Angelia Chiu, held three rallies
during the year, with a total attendance of over one thousand
teachers. In August Miss Chiu and Mrs. Lee Chang Po Kuen attended
the second Christian Kindergarten Teachers' Association Conference,
in Singapore. The next conference of this association is planned
for October 1974 , and will be held in Hong Kong.
Two visits to Hong Kong of the Rev. John England, Secretary
for Christian Education and Lay Training of E.A.C.C. were the
occasions of consultations of small groups.
Lay Training, the need for it and procedures for meeting
the need, have been discussed and explored by the Committee.
The Committee is in the process of preparing a series of short
articles describing different programs of Lay Training; A
leadership training conference on lay training is being planned
to coincide with the visit to Hong Kong of the Rev. Ron Lawton
of Australia in May. It is suggested that there be four evening
sessions for pastors, deacons, church workers, and two more
general sessions for laymen.
