V. New Membership

In view of the spiritual importance of an increasing realization
of common participation in the one Body of Christ o f a ll the Christian
Churches in Hong Kong, we are pleased to report that during the year
two applications for membership have been received, from the German-

The proposed merger between the Hong Kong Christian Welfare
and Relief Council and the Hong Kong Church World Service has been dis-
cussed since 1964. After many meetings and detailed discussions, the

Dr. Eberhard Mueller, Founder and Chairman of the Directors'
Association of the Evangelical Academies in Germany visited Hong Kong
                 from December 5- 7 ,1 9 6 6 , with his associate Dr. Alfred Schmidt.
The Council arranged two special meetings for church leaders to discuss
with Dr. Mueller the p ossib ilities of establishing a Christian Academy
programme in Hong Kong. The purpose of the Christian Academy would be
encourage conversation among many different groups with special con
cerns or professions thorough which; they might discover their mutual needs
and gain a deeper insight into the Gospel to-day and more effective
ways to communicate it to people amid th e world's daily li f e and callings
After detailed discussion, it was resolved to appoint a study committee
to give further thought to this matter.
Following Dr. Muelleru s v is it, the Council arranged several
meetings for loca l church leaders to explore together with Dr. Alfred
Schmidt and Dr. Wong Yong Kang on the p ossib ility of organizing such
an Academy in Hong Kong. This is a new attempt! The Council w ill
keep members informed on the development of this proposed programme.

V lII. Local Contribution for Relie f programme in Vietnam

The Council in response to the East Asia Christian Conference
appeal for the re lie f programme in the whole of Vietnam has encouraged
local churches to support this work. As the result, HK$2,654.90 has
been raised and sent through the EACC for th is good cause.

IX. Move to the Hong Kong Christian Centre

It has long been the hope that the HKCC might have a home.
After a long search fo r a su ita b le site and location , our dream has
fin a lly come true. The Council has purchased four floors with 2,832
square feet of space on each flo o r in the Metropole Building 57 Peking
Road, Kowloon, now known as the Hong Kong Christian Centre. The
Council moved its o ffice into the Christian Centre, on March 1st, 1967.

It is our sincere hope and prayer that the work of the Council
w ill be strengthened through closer cooperation with men of good w ill
and other interdenominational organizations which are now also housed
                    in the Christian Centre Building.
