America. The Committee had several meetings mainly, for the
preparation of a ll loca l arrangements for these EACC Conferences.
The Committee also had the honour of arranging for these vist
ing- Church leaders to preach at loca l churches on Sunday 30 October
1966. Their v is its to our Churches and Community have formed
strong bridges of understanding and Christian fellowship whose value
cannot be measured in words.
The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity was again the occasion
for fellowship between Roman Catholic and Protestant churches.
The Council was joint-sponsor with Bishop Bianchi of the Roman
Catholic Church fo r a Bible Exposition held on Monday 10th January*
1967 at 5:45 p.m. at the City Hall. There were two speakers, one
from the Roman Catholic Church, the other from the Protestant Church.
Also, a t the invitation of the Roman Catholic Church, the Council
appointed 6 Bible Readers for the two Bible Services held at the
Roman Catholic Cathedral, Hong Kong and at St. Teresa's Church,
Kowloon at t he same time on Wednesday 18th January, 1967 at 6:00 p.m.
A United Service of Prayer for Christian Unity sponsored by the
Council was held on Monday 23rd January 1967 at 8:00 p.m. at St.
John's Cathedral, Hong Kong Bishop Gilbert Baker and the Rev. Dr.
Peter Wong preached on the theme - "Called to One Hope." The Hong
Kong Union Church Choir gave two special anthems and ministers from
8 different churches, participated in the programme.
Despite much ecumenical activity the sectional spirit is s t i ll
quite strong among some of the churches.
If in general the Church in Hong Kong continues its sober and
conventional way, an exception is in the fie ld of religious broad
casting. Protestants and Roman Catholics combine, through advisory
committees to ensure that Christian voices can be heard on Radio
Hong Kong programmes both in English and Chinese.
