5. Christian Family Life Committee
The fam ilies in Hong Kong are facing a rapidly changing situation.
In this situation, Christians have a responsibility to help evaluate
the changes, to analize the problems and to suggest how there may be
a creative force in fu lfillin g God's plan fo r fam ilies in our City,
Hong Kong.
Family Sunday is the second Sunday in May when special family
services are held in many of the churches, and is followed by Family .
Meek when various family groups meet and have talks, films discussion
on the various aspects, needs problems of family life in Hong Kong.
This year the committee sponsored another consultation on Family
L ife. It seems this is the most effective way to discuss end. think
together, and get information through to the various churches and Christ
ian Organizations. 72 representatives representing 13 denominations
met on 11th May, 1966 at the North Point Methodist Church.
The theme of the consultation was, "The Church's Responsibility
in Family Counselling". The opening devotional session was led by Dr.
T. Chow of the Methodist Church. The Chairman, Miss Rita Luk introduced
the speaker Rev. Paul R. Webb, who spake on the subject "Family Problems
in Hong Kong To-day." Mr. Webb presented his views in a liv e ly and
practical way and stimulated ready and helpful discussion in the sess-
.. ions which followed.
Seven leaders in the panel discussion were:
Mr. Calvin Ngai (Chairman) Mrs. Franklin Woo
Mrs. Peter Wong Rev. Yung Kwok Kwong
Mrs. John Ma Rev. Lung Kong
Mr. Choi Tsun Kwong.
After a fellowship lunch, participants were divided into four
discussion groups.
Reports from the discussion groups were co-ordinated and presented
by Mrs. Jean Chan at fin a l session.
The findings of the Consultation have been published as a com-
prehensive report in the Happy Home Magazine. Copies were distributed
to the various churches and organizations participating in the con
sultation for use in follow up work.
6. Ecumenical Scholarship Exchange Committee
During the year the following types of Scholarships were available:
1* Through the generosity of Miss Emma Kaufman of Toronto, a Visiting
Fellowship of $1,500 w ill be available at the Canadian School of Miss
ions and Ecumenical Institute, Toronto, in each of the academic years
1967-68.
The prupose o f this Fellowship is to enable a scholar with prior
experience and interest in the fie ld o f MLssiology or Ecumenics to
spend an academic year (or portion thereof) at the Institute doing
