                          The Hong Kong Christian Council and Me

    T hanks be to  G od for giving m e the privilege  of   co-operation,  w e  need  to  learn  to  accept  the
    serving  the  C ouncil,  first  as  a  com m ittee   differences  in  people,  to have  m utual  respect  for
    m em ber and later chairm an.  C urrently I am  the   one another in the various denom inations and  to
    chairm an  o f the  W om en's  Com m ittee.  Serving   be  able  to  be  appreciative  o f each  other.  In  so
    the  C ouncil  has  not  only  helped  m e  in  my  ow n   doing,  w e  can  m ake  the  best  o f the  other's  good
    spiritual  advancem ent but  has  also  provided  me   for  one's  ow n  inadequacy.  T ogether,  w ith  G od
    w ith  opportunities  in  direct  service  and  w ork   as our guide and the spirit o f one body in  C hrist,
    experience.                                        w e  evangelize  and  take  up  the  responsibility  o f
                                                       prom oting church unity.
    T his  year  the  H ong  K ong  C hristian  Council  is
    celebrating its 40th anniversary.  A  m an o f forty   H ong  K ong  is  at  the  threshold  o f  a  crucial
    is at the prim e o f his life.  It  is the sam e w ith the   change in tim e.  It is necessary for the church  in
    Council  that  it  has  reached  a  m ature  stage.  M y   H ong  K ong  to jo in   hands  to  explore,  plan  and
    involvem ent  w ith  the  w ork  o f  the  C ouncil  has   m ake  responsible  responses  to  m eet  the  need  o f
    confirm ed  that it  has tried to fulfil  the  C ouncil's   the  age.   In  its  forty  years  the  C ouncil  has
    aim s  in  its  very  m any  activities.  Let  us  recall   already  tried  its  best  in  this  direction  on  all
    w hat  the  aim s  are:  T o  prom ote  a  fellow ship   levels  o f  services.   I  strongly  believe  it  w ill
    am ong  churches  and  C hristian  organizations  in   continue  to  prom ote  this  unity  in  C hrist  in  the
    H ong  K ong  and  to  develop  co-ordinated  plans   years to come.

    activities;  to provide opportunities for C hristians   T he  C ouncil  is  also  a  C hristian  fellow ship
    to  exchange,  in  a  harm onious  way,  ideas  on   com prised   o f   local   church   leaders   and
    item s  o f com m on  interest;  to  initiate  a  unified   C hristians.   In  the  spirit  o f  service,  they  give
    m ission  and  co-operative  action  for  H ong  K ong   their  tim e  and  m oney  through  the  Executive
    churches and  C hristian organizations;  to assum e   C om m ittee  and  m any  sub-com m ittees  and
    responsibilities  in  an  effort   of  achieving   activities  to  w ork  w ith  Council  staff  w ho  are
    designed  results o f jo in t  projects;  to be a  symbol   professionally  trained,  am bitious  and  w ith  a
    o f  the  strength  o f  C hristian  unity  and  to   good w ork attitude.  W ith G od's grace they m ake
    continue the prom otion o f such  unity;  to  provide   the  best  o f this  fellow ship  to  prom ote  the  w ork
    a  m eans,  w hereby  churches  and  C hristian    of  the  Council  that  m any  m ore  people  w ill  be
    organizations  can  express  opinions  and  take   blessed.

    religious,  m oral,  econom ic  and  social  life;  and,   It  has  been  my  pleasure  to  w itness  the  progress
    to  liaise  C hristian  organizations  in  H ong  K ong   o f the  Council  through  G od's  abundant  grace  in
    w ith  that  o f  regional  and  w orld  ecum enical   the past forty years.  I  look  forw ard to  the future

    Indeed,  spreading  the  Gospel  and  prom oting   organizations  w ill  w ork  together  harder  still,  to
    C hurch  unity  is  an  im portant  m ission  of  the   fulfil  its aim s and to achieve even better results.
