                D ear D r. Tso,
                O n the occasion o f the fortieth anniversary o f the H ong K ong C hristian C ouncil, I,
                on b eh alf of the C hina C hristian C ouncil and o f the m ultitudes o f our fellow -
C hristians in the m ainland, greet you m ost w arm ly w ith thanksgiving and
celebration for w hat G od has w rought in the past four decades.

It is still an unfortunate fact that the churches o f Jesus C hrist throughout the w orld
have not obeyed his w ish as expressed in his prayer before his crucifixion th at his
disciples be united as one, thereby having greatly w eakened our w itness to him as
Lord. In the last forty years the H ong K ong C hristian C ouncil has strived to be true
to C hrist's prayer and has w orked against the forces of divisiveness. It has united
the m asses o f the C hristians in H ong K ong in com m on loyalty to C hrist and in
service to hum anity in need, thus upholding the glory and the beauty o f C hrist
                before the citizens o f H ong K ong.

W ith the restoration o f order after the C ultural R evolution and w ith the grow ing
im plem entation of the policy of religious freedom in our land, the relationship
betw een the churches in the m ainland and in H ong K ong has grow n closer and
closer. U nder the guideline o f equality and m utual assistance, our bi-lateral relation
has developed to our satisfaction and has resulted in grow ing m utual benefit. T he
                 celebration o f the fortieth anniversary o f the H ong K ong C hristian C ouncil is a good
occasion for us to offer to G od our thanksgiving, to pray for the further
strengthening of our bond o f unity, to the end that the light of the gospel can shine
forth brightly, to the benefit o f our fellow -countrym en and w om en.

M ay G od bless the H ong K ong C hristian C ouncil richly in the forth-com ing four
                 decades.

                 M ost sincerely,
