We are extremely grateful to the churches, the Mission Boards
and our many friends local and abroad for their constant concern
and financial support which have strengthened us and have made
the work of the Council possible.
This has been a difficult year and a lot of strain has been
thrown on the executives and the staff. We are grateful to them
for their leadership and to all who have served the churches through
the work of the Council so loyally. We are confident that with
their continued support, we can emerge the stronger and can look
forward to a closer cooperation in our common task for mission.
XII• WORK OF THE DIVISIONS AND COMMITTEES
A. DIVISION FOR INTER-CHURCH RELATIONS
Committee for Co-operation in Church Development & Planning
The Church Planning and Development Committee serves as a
forum for mutual consultation on Church development and
coordination of the work of member churches of the Council.
As the churches encounter increasingly limited resources and
growing opportunities, this forum is means whereby they can
discuss together their plans, goals, priorities, strategies
and problems. This Committee could be a means for better
coordination of the total thrust of the Church, and for
exploration of areas of possible joint action for mission.
The Committee also seeks to be a research arm for the churches,
to provide information regarding:
(a) the needs and opportunities in new areas;
(b) the special problems for Christian witness and service
created by the rapid urban growth;
(c) and information helpful to the establishment of priorities
and consideration of new approaches to the work of the
church.
A major focus of the work of the Committee continues to be
the unfinished task of setting up a central register of
information on present church programs throughout the city.
It is hoped this year to provide a fairly complete picture
of the work of the churches in Hong Kong. One other aspect of
the work of the Committee includes liaison with the Community at
large, therefore information is being obtained from the City
District Officers and from Hong Kong Government regarding
population changes and other items relevant to church development.
Church Unity Committee
The purposes of the Church Unity Committee may be stated
as follows:
(1) To serve as a study commission on Faith and Order issues
and to explore the theological, ethical, liturgical, and
ecclesiastical commonalities and divergences of member
churches.
(2) Promote inter-church activities.
(3) Promote the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.
(4) Hold conferences to explore issues of inter-church
relationships.
(3) Promote Christian Unity.
The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, 1969 - The Week of
Christian Unity, 1969 included three services:
(a) A Protestant service sponsored by the Christian Council
and including participants from the Roman Catholic Church
was held at St. John's Cathedral. Attendance numbered
