V. WORK OF STANDING COMMITTEES
7. Industrial Commttee (Cont'd)
i
Plans are now under way for the preparation of a film strip on the Church
and Industrial Society to be made available for use by groups in churches.
This film strip, it is hoped, w ill be ready by late I 963 in Chinese and English.
An Industrial Day is another consideration of this Committee. It w ill be a
public demonstration and dramatization of this Committee. It w ill be a public
demonstration and dramatization of the Church's concern for the whole of society,
to take place in one of the sa tellite towns of Hongkong.
A Students-in-industry program with study seminars for interested students
(theological and others) to be placed in industry for a first-hand experience
of that society is being considered. This program is of a more complex nature
and w ill undoubtedly be slow in developing.
On the whole the work of the Industrial Committee is slow. Old patterns
in the Church are d iffic u lt to break or change, and new ones have not emerged.
We are thankful, however, that members of the Commi ttee are v ita lly interested,
patient, and persistent, even with the apparent lack of progress being made.
Perhaps with God's grace there w ill come a break-through where we can see more
clearly the s truggle ahead which the entire Church cannot for long afford to
avoid.
8. Youth Committee The Youth Committee was o ffic ia lly established on
October 22, 1962 by action of the Executive Committee
of the Hongkong Christian Council. The purpose of the Committee is being
outlined as to promote and co-ordinate Youth Work in Hongkong, particularly
in the churches.
Thirteen people representing various churches and Christian organizations
were named to this Committee with Rev. Matthew Fong, as Chairman; Mr. James
Pan, Chinese Secretary; and Miss Jean Windsor, English Secretary.
Contributions had been received from the World Council of Churches designated
for the work of this Committee.
Our emphasis is on the age range of 15-25 years and it was thought
advisable that the concentration of work should be on the Youth groups within
the churches and Christian youth organizations undetaking the following
responsibilities
a) to advise the Hongkong Christian Council on matters relating to
Hongkong youth;
b) t o a c t as a C h a n n e l o f C o m m u n i c a t i o n b e t w e e n
the World Council of Churches Youth Department, the East Asia
Christian Council, the local menber churches, and the Christian
Youth Organizations;
c) to encourage co-operation and co-ordination between churches in
their own Youth Work, and to develop Ecumenical Youth A ctiv ities;
d) to provide opportunities for Conference and Training Programmes
for young people and those who work with them;
e) to provide the opportunity for churches and Christian Youth
Organizations to share ideas, and problems regarding Youth
Work
