2. Committee for Co-operation on Church Development & Planning (Cont’ d)

major population moves at as early a stage as possible in order
to be able to plan ahead rea listica lly with the building of
new churches.
The Committee is only at the beginning o f its work, but given proper
and responsible support it believes that it can be a most useful servant
to the Church and the Kingdom.
3 . Christian Education Committee The Christian Education Committee of
the Hongkong Christian Council was
revitalized, and held its fir s t meeting on March 26, 1962. To an original,
informal committee of 7 members, were added 9 others representing various
church bodies, and church-related organizations. Since that time 2 menbers
have been added.
Between March 26, 1962 and February 28, 1963 the committee held 8
meetings. The average attendance was 8 members. Dr. Timothy Y.H. Chow
served as chairman, and Miss M idred Proctor as secretary.

A ctivities
1. Sunday School Survey The committee undertook to survey the Sunday
School situation in the colony.
2. Membership in WCCESSA The committee recommended that the Hongkong
Christian Council become a member of the World Council of Christian
Educatipn and Sunday School Association. This has been accomplished.
3 . Sunday Institutes Two Sunday-aftemoon institutes for Sunday School
teachers were held in Novanber 1962, one in Kowloon and one in Hong
Kong. The. program included short talks on the work of the Sunday
Schopl, a skit showing some of its problems, a devotional period, and
a time of fe llo wship. Two hundred and twenty-five persons attended
from 20 churches.
4. Library Committee A sub-committee is functioning with the following
responsibilities; to make a lis t of good books in the fie ld of Christian
Education; to recommend to the Christian Education Committee the purchase
of certain books for a library for church workers; to recommend to the
Council on Christian Literature for Overseas Chinese books for transla
tion , to recommend to existing libraries valuable books in the fie ld of
Christian Education for their purchase.
5» Long-Range Training Program Various plans have been proposed and dis
cussed for a long-range leadership training program. The present plan
involves 4 sessions on Sunday afternoons and evenings, one Sunday a
month, beginning in April 1963. The program w ill include general
courses, specialization in work with certain age groups, and practical
courses in methods of teaching.
6. Budget The Hongkong Christian Council granted the committee HK$200.-
for use in 1962. HK$1,425.- has been requested for use in I963. This
amount may come from the WCCESSA.
7. Other Items
(1) The WCCESSA requested that one person be nominated to a Christian
Education Committee in Asia to work in consultation with the Eart
Asia Christian Conference, but responsible to the WCCESSa. Dr.
Timothy Chow was recommended to the Hongkong Christian Council for
their nomination.
(2) The committee is planning an exhibit of Sunday School materials
available in Hongkong.
(3) The committee is planning a Pastors’ Retreat with emphasis on the
Christian Education program of the church. This may be done in 1 963
(4) The committee proposed the publication from time to time of useful
articles in Christian Education.
