Feb 19 U nity Committee hosted a Joint D istrict Chinese New Year Gathering fo r Clergy at
Kowloon Methodist Church.
Feb 26 A delegation from Guangdong led by Mr. Chen Dong, Director o f Religious Affairs
Bureau o f Guangdong, was invited by HKCC to visit churches and Christian welfare
agencies and hospitals in Hong Kong.
Feb 27 Communications Centre together with 21 groups formed the "Jo in t Conference
Concerned With Broadcasting Review” and held a press conference expressing their
views on the Broadcasting Review Board Report.
March 3 —6 Assistant Executive Secretary Ms. Helena Wong was invited by the General Board o f
Global Ministries, United Methodist Church to attend the Asia/Pacific/USA Mission
Consultation in New Delhi.
March 7 Some 300 people attended a bilingual service at CCC Cheung Lo Church to mark the
99th World Day o f Prayer. The theme was “ Choose Life". A pamphlet entitled “ Let’s
Pray" was published to promote the praying movement.
March 20 Commission On Public Policy together with a number o f civic groups called a press
conference urging the Executive Committee o f the Basic Law Consultative Committee
to amend its proposed standing orders and make public the opinions it has collected
and collated on the Basic Law.
March 20 — 23 A photo-exhibition on Ethiopia and Sudan by Mr. Water Poon to raise fund for
Five Loaves & Two Fish Campaign was held at the C ity Hall.
March 25 Commission On Public Policy called a press conference to comment on the "R eport
On The Delivery o f Medical Services In Hospitals” .
April U nity Committee launched the “ Friends o f Peace” Movement to mark the International
Year o f Peace.
A pril 2 A delegation led by Mr. Ren Wuji, Director o f the Chinese Religious Affairs Bureau in
Beijing visited Hong Kong from A pril 1 — 1 0 . They were taken on a tour to various
Christian welfare service agencies. In the afternoon they met w ith local clergy to
discuss religious policy fo r Hong Kong after 1997. HKCC's Executive Committee
hosted a dinner party in their honour.
A pril 1 4 - 1 6 F ifth Joint D istrict Clergy and Ministers Retreat at Xavier's House on Cheung Chau
Island.
A pril 17 - May 25 A group consisting o f Rev. Lo. Lung Kwong, M r. Mau Chi Wang, Mr. Christopher Lam
and Ms. Iris Tsang visited the U.K. to study the political institutions there. A fte r the
U.K. the group went on to Sweden fo r a similar program w ith Ms. Helena Wong
replacing Rev. Lo.
