         Searching for a New Role
In view of the changing needs of society and the new welfare trends in Hong Kong, the staff of the HKCS are
thinking and planning together in a search for a new role in the future. Several staff retreats have been held during
         the year.

         Staff Training and Development
More than 45 staff members attended various courses and seminars organized by government departm ents, the
two universities and the Council of Social Service. One staff member received fulltime social work training in England
while another studied social work at the Hong Kong Polytechnic. One supervisor of a Day Care Centre attended the
in-service training course offered by the Social Welfare Department.

         Hostel for the Edlerly
The two hostels, Wah Hong & Kwai Fong, were transferred to the administration of Hong Kong Christian
Service. A total of 269 persons are now living in these two hostels. A third hostel is due to begin operations within
         the next several months.

         College Student Work Project
This project was also transferred to the HKCS. 152 students are receiving support. The U.S. Government has
decided to withdraw their financial support by December 31, 1978. Unless new avenues of support can be found,
this project will have to be term inated in 1979.

         Migration Service Departm ent
The WCC in Hong Kong transferred their refugee program to HKCS. Right now, the European migrants case-
load is 1139, the Chinese 361, the Vietnamese 198 and the Burmese 97.

         Medical Departm ent
This departm ent consists of a general medical clinic, an eye and a dental clinic. We attended almost 2000
         patients throughout the year.
