The Kwun Tong Community Health Project continues to grow and
to serve more people. Health Centres are well established in Sau Mau
Ping and Yau Tong, and construction of a third centre in Lam Tin has
started. The medical clinics in these centres recorded 34,694 visits
in 1975 and the dental clinics had 10,005 visits. About 12,000 school
children are served by the centres which conducted physical examina-
tions and health education classes. Community nurses made 18,006
home visits in 1975. There was a marked rise in volunteer interest
during the year showing a desire on the part of many people to share
in the promotion of health in the community. A series of new and
experimental health maintenance programs are being started with the
help of a three-year (1976-78) DM800,000 grant from Germany. If
these new patterns of health care prove useful they might have
considerable application in the massive cities of other developing
countries.
