The College Student Work Project Department's main service is to
provide workscholarships to needy college students. The Department
is assisting 200 students from the Chinese University of Hong Kong
and four post secondary colleges. The students are working in 101
institutions carrying responsibilities as teachers, group leaders,
librarians, clerks and others. In addition to proving workscholarships,
counselling, job placement and an emergency loan fund were recently
developed and made available to the students.
During 1968 the total sales in the Handwork Department were
HK$254,546.51. Although sales were increased and production was
down when compared w ith 1967, yet we are still in red for some
HK$30,000. Besides production and sales of our own products this
department has also been handling handicrafts produced by the patients
at Haven of Hope TB Sanatorium at Rennies' Mill. This Department also
helped other Christian welfare handicraft agencies to work together on
a joint brochure. The five agencies adopted an uniform style but
decided to print the brochure separately.
As a co-ordinator of Christian Service Agencies, HKCS was able to
assist the program development of other organizations through
recruiting and distributing funds received from overseas. During
the year HKCS granted HK$43,339.04 to the Plummer Fund Committee of
the Wei Li Kung Hui to support the building of pre-fabricated houses
for former boat squatters at Tai Po. Under an Agreement signed
between HKCS with the support of CWS/NY and the Hong Kong Family Planning
Association, HKCS provided a total of HK$77,775.05 in 1968 to support
11 workers. HK$355,853.37 was received from the Refugee and Migration
Unit of the American Consulate General to support the programs of
Christian Family Service Centre, HKCS College Student Work Project,
HK Federation of Youth Groups, Holy Carpenter Youth Centre, School Aid
in Macau and the Children's Meals Society. HKCS also granted HK$2,500
to the Society for the Aid and Rehabilitation of Drug Addicts and
HK$3,500 to the Leprosy Mission's project at Hay Ling Chau from the
Heifer Project Fund. A total of US$87,732.37 was received from the
Division of Inter-Church Aid Refugee and World Service of the World
Council of Churches to 12 projects carried out by Christian service
agencies.
The future direction of Hong Kong Christian Service points to more
emphasis on co-ordination, promotion and interpretation of Church and
Service rather than on operating projects. The reorganization of the
Hong Kong Christian Council has brought closer planning and working
relationships between HKCS and the other divisions of the Council.
We are committed to working together for the improvement of better
understanding and joint involvement in church and society.

Christian Family Life Committee
Many families today are overwhelmed, bewildered and confused by
the rapid pace of change in our society.
The Family Life Committee was created in 196 9. During these years,
our programme has constantly adopted itself to the appeals which we
receive and to the needs of the churches. Every economic and social
evelution has direct repercussions on our life and on the responsibilities
which we are assuming in our community. We have to be constantly on
the alert in order to see what new kinds of witness and service we ought
to give in face of new situations.
During the year, the Committee held 4 meetings to discuss family
problems in Hong Kong. The Committee also sponsored a Consultation on
"Youth and Marriage" with the following subjects for discussion: (a)
Youth's View on Marriage (b) Marriage and Society (c) Christian View
on Marriage. This will be held on 8th May, 1969 at the Ward Memorial
