Christian Family Life Committee
Hong Kong’ family problems in themselves probably are not unique
s
but because of the groat density of pupulation in so small an area,
and the rapid development and urbanisation of Hong Kong, they are
brought into sharp relief. Sheer numbers tend to make the situation
seem hopeless.' we never "catch up on anything"; and it is easy to
take the problems for granted and see them as too big for a short
term solution and too many for us even to grapple with a long term
policy.
However the Hong Kong Christian Council Christian Family Life
Committee endeavours to keep abreast in its thingking and planning,
and a small group of people are faced with a tremendous field.
This year another consultation was held. It seems the most
effective way to discuss and think together, and get information
through to the various churches and Christian Organizations. About
sixty representatives met in the North Point Methodist Church.
The theme of the consultation was, "The Christian View of Sex
and marriage". The opening devotional session was led by Dr. T. Chow
of the Methodist Church (Wei Li Hui). The Chairman, Miss Wong Po Yiu
(YWCA) introduced the two speakers: Rev. Ho Sai Ming (Anglican Church)
who spoke on the "Christian View of Sex" and the Rev. David Liu (CCC)
who spoke on the "Christian View of Marriage". Both speakers presented-
their views in a lively and practical way and stimulated ready and helpful
discussion in the sessions which followed.
Reports from the discussion groups were co-ordinated and presented
by Mrs. Jean Chan (Chinese Christian Literature Council) at a final
session.
We are indebted also to Mrs. Chan for a comprehensive report in
the Happy Home Magazine (Chinese Christian Literature Council) copies
of which were distributed to the various churches and organizations
participating in the consultation for us in follow up work. The study
book used by delegates as preparation for the consultation was, "Two
Together" by R.C. Dodds published by Chinese Christian Literature Council.
