on ’The strength of Church unity in evangelism', while Rev. Alan A.
Brash talked on 'The meaning of Inter-Church Aid'. Two excursions
were arranged by the HKCC. One was to acquaint the more elderly
members, by means of a short trip, with church welfare and relief work.
An evening harbour excursion was given to those who could afford the
time. Arrangements were made to have members of the EACC Working
Committee to preach at different churches in Hong Kong at their Sunday
Services. These churches were the Anglican, the Church of Christ in
China, the Union Church, the Presbyterian and the Baptist. A
missionary consultation was held at the Church Guest House from April
25 - 26, 1960. Four delegates were appointed by the Hong Kong
Christian Council to represent four different denominations to partici-
                pate in this Consultation.

                6, Inter-Church Aid
In Christ there is no East or West. The Morrocan disaster of
the Agaidir earthquake equally appalled us, even though we had just
had the Japanese typhoon Vera. The first response of HK $400 came
from the Swatow Baptist Church; there was nothing unusual to it except
that 85% of this money came from subscriptions of the Swatow refugees
who themselves lived in a deplorable condition. A total of $585 was
collected and sent through the EACC Inter-Church Aid Department. The
East Pakistan Cyclone disaster relief was collected during Christmas.
This was to show how much the churches and schools responded to
Christian love and sympathy. $850 was received, and for the World
Refugee Year we have collected $1,314.90 to be spent locally.

                7, Joseph Cook Memorial Lectures
Dr. John Alexander Mackay, President of Princeton Theological
Seminary and Honanory Chairman of the International Missionary Council,
arrived in Hongkong on 24th February, 1961 to deliver a series of three
lectures at the Chinese Methodist Church, Hongkong, on 27th and 28th
of February and 1st March. The topics were:-

                         (a) Christian Truth and Shadows that Betray it
                         (b) The Community of Christ and Churchism
                         (c) Christian Discipleship and Ethicism

The Church was well packed and the occasions were considered very
               successful.

               8. Lecture of Bishop Michael Hollis
Bishop Hollis, Moderator of the Church of South India came on
May 31, 1960 on a transit visit. He was asked to give a talk on
'Possible Steps re-Reunion of the Churches'.

               9. Protest against Football Pools
The Footabll Pool s Bill passed through its first reading in the
Legislative Council and was about to go through its second reading, but
at this critical period the Executive Committee decided, at its 25th
January, 1960, meeting to protest against this evil in society. The
Chairman was asked to write a letter of protest to Government on behalf
of its members and at the same time to request the churches and Christian
schools to follow suit. The alarm given by the Christian Countil drew
practically all the Chinese newspapers, all the Kai Fong Associations,
and some churches and schools to oppose such an operation.
