FELLOWSHIP IN THE CHRISTIAN CENTRE

Throughout the year, half-hour chapel services are held each
Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 10:00 for all 62 staff working in
the Hong Kong Christian Centre. This gives opportunities for
fellowship, better understanding and a closer working relationship
among the workers. Often we invited overseas visitors and
local ministers to share their spiritual experience with us. We
also encouraged many of our fellow workers to take charge of these
devotions and we are grateful for their contributions. During the
year the Christian Centre Workers' Fellowship organized several
retreats to enrich the spiritual and recreational life of the
             workers.

REALIZATION OF THE UNITED CHRISTIAN HOSPITAL PROJECT

In our community today, sickness without adequate medical care
is a great threat to the people of Hong Kong. This is especially
true for the poor and the industrial workers. Therefore the
expansion of medical services to cope with the need has been noted
             as urgent. i

In view of this challenge, the Hong Kong Christian Council
established a Committee for a United Christian Hospital in 1962
to explore possibilities of building a United Christian Hospital.

Those first years were very stormy and first plan did not succeed.
The Committee then saw the vision of the need for a community
hospital. The obvious choice for locating the hospital was Kwun
              Tong.

The hospital project has been undertaken in very close
cooperation with the Hong Kong Government. Not only is Government
making a large capital grant, but they have granted the land worth
many millions to the Hong Kong Christian Council for the project.
The Government has also promised annual recurring“subventions.
Generous financial support from churches, organizations and friends
both local and overseas have been gratefully received. The project
has firm commitments now for HK$21.7 million and we still need 'six
              million to complete the project.

The Executive Committee of the Council at its November 1970
Meeting decided to transfer the continuing responsibility of the
project to the newly incorporated Board of the United Christian
Hospitals to which the Council has a representation of a simple
majority. The first contract of the building has been signed and
the Foundation Stone-Laying Ceremony which represents the founding
of the UCH was officiated by His Excellency the Governor Sir David
Trench. It is expected that the Hospital will be completed by the
              end of 1972.

May every man, woman and child have the chance to grow to their
full life. It is to this vision that the Hospital is dedicated.
