In order to reach these target areas, the Council should:
1. Develop more seminars and workshops for both ministers
and laity.
2. Help ministers to have a new image of themselves.
3 . Gather information, facts and data about Hong Kong.
4 . Seek ways and possibilities of working closely with all
local churches.
5. Assist ministers and church workers through Biblical
commentary, translate meaningful and helpful articles,
inform the ministers on up-to-date theological thought;
Christian interpretation on social issues, editorials
through Christian Weekly and other Christian publications.
6. Develop regional co-operation among churches.
7. Seek ways and means to promote Christian youth work
through strengthening the present Youth Committee.
8. Be the voice of the Church and play an active role in
interpreting social needs and problems in Hong Kong
In the closing years of the last decade, we have noticed a
change in emphasis of the churches of the Western countries and in
support of the work of our local churches and Christian organizations.
It is high time for us as Christians in Hong Kong to explore local
resources, to simplify our structures and operations, to pool all
available resources, to train the younger generation, and to prepare
ourselves for promoting the self-support movement for the continuing
ministry and witness of our churches in Hong Kong.
NEW CHAIRMAN ELECTED
During the year, Archdeacon James Pong, Chairman of the Council,
was appointed Bishop of Taiwan and left Hong Kong in December. The
Consecration took place on 6th January 1971. We rejoice in this
appointment but very much regret his loss to the Council and the
Hong Kong community.
We are pleased to report that Miss Ko Siu Wah, General Secretary
of Y.W.C.A. was elected Chairman of the Council to fill the vacancy
in November 1970. This was for the first time in the Council’s
history that a woman was elected Chairman of the Council.
