Management
Contact with, management was conducted on an ad hoc basis.
A recent one was a series of luncheon meetings on "Church and
Economic Development". This was done in conjunction with Mr.
J. Collins, EACC. A more formal occasion was a conference of
Christian engineers and personnel managers on social ethics.
Other activities include discussions with management groups
on various issues.
Studies and Surveys
Studies and surveys formed another aspect of our programme.
Most of the work was actually done by professionals and volunteers
with our staff providing the initiative and doing the coordination.
s
Examples include a worker’ rights pamphlet, and a study into the
electronics industries. A more notable example is found in our
Shop Employees' Survey. Sociologists, lawyers, church leader,
college students pulled their efforts together. The result was
a conclusive report made up of 600 interviews. The findings
which included recommendation for a 6-day week for shop workers
found much public support. The said recommendation has now
become a provision in the Employment Ordinance.
Worker's Weekly
This is an 8-page tabloid size Chinese weekly newspaper for
workers. The first issue was out in the newstands in May 1,
and comes out every Monday.
Others
Apart from these 3 main areas of activities, other programmes
include the following:
Publication of CHANGE - a monthly bulletin to propagate church
involvement in industry.
Labour Sunday preparation.
Talks to professional, church, and student groups.
Work-in-industry seminars.
