10,000 copies of a small booklet of New Testament pictures
and stories in Chinese, and 1,000 copies in English. Of
the Old Testament booklets, the Committee received 1,000
copies in English, and with the financial help of the
W.C.C.E., printed 10,000 copies of the same booklet in
Chinese. These were given out freely for use with children,
upon request. At the end of 1967 there are still about
6.000 copies of the Old Testament, and 3 ,000 copies of the
New Testament booklets in Chinese still on hand. The stock
of English copies is negligible.
(4) Filmstrips - Since 1966, the Committee worked on a revision
of an American filmstrip entitled, How Persons Learn. The
script was rewritten to suit a Chinese group, and the
pictures were "shot" using Chinese children and their leaders.
The final work on this was completed in the late spring of
1967. With the cooperation of Audio Visual Evangelism
Committee of the Council. 15 copies of the filmstrip were
ordered from the processing company in the U.S.A. Three of
these are held by A.V.E.C.; the other 12 were sold almost
immediately. A.V.E.C. has ordered and received an additional
20, for sale.
A second filmstrip entitled How To be a Better Teacher
"
in the Church School" m s obtained by the Committee from
Burma. It was produced by the Christian Education Committee
of the Burma Christian Council. Its title frames are in
Burmese, but there is an English script. This was turned over
to A.V.E.C., with the recommendation that a Chinese script
be prepared, and if possible the title of frames be changed to
Chinese.
(3) The W.C.C.E. Institute .and Assembly in Nairobi - The World
Council of Christian Education holds a quaddrennial institute
and assembly, to which it calls delegates from its member
units and other interested bodies. The Hong Kong Christian
Council is a member unit of the W.C.C.E. The Institute was
held in Nairobi, Kenya, late in July 1967, and the shorter
Assembly followed the Institute. Upon recommendation of
the Christian Education Committee, the following were sent
as representatives of the Hong Kong Christian Council: the
Rev. Ho Sai King, the Rev. Miss Lee Ching Chee, and Mr.
Calvin Ngai. Miss Mildred Proctor attended also.
Upon return from the Institute, the Rev. Ho Sai Ming
wrote a full report which was published in the Christian
Weekly. Miss Lee Ching Chee was interviewed on the radio
programme, Crossroads, by Dennis Rogers. Opportunities have
come to each one who attended to make some report of the
conference. And the Christian Education Committee arranged
a Church Workers' Retreat to relate some of the Nairobi
discussions to the Hong Kong situation.
(6) The Chairman - In September 1967 the Committee lost from
its membership Dr. Timothy Y. H. Chow, who had also served as
chairman for several years. Dr. Chow left Hong Kong for
further study abroad, and does not plan to return to Hong
Kong.
The Committee invited Mr. Lee Lin Chi to be chairman.
Mr. Lee has been a faithful member of the Committee for
several years, and is a fitting successor to Dr. Chow.
(7) A Final Word - It was noted above that there is a new emphasis
in the thinking of the Committee, toward lay training, or
guidance in how to be a Christian.
Continuing with the need for leadership training in the
Sunday School, the Committee has talked about setting up
one or more "training teams" consisting of persons who may
