This is not necessarily or exclusively done in Christian
fellowship in committee or council, as it is often of greater
value for the churches to participate in the work of a civic
body.
The Christian Welfare & R elief Council’ s efforts during
the year have as before been mainly in seeking to make known
their members’ work through inter-church-aid, and in seeking
funds fo r them. More than the to ta l of $1 ,299, 889.06 subscribed
during the year, was spent in assisting the churches and agencies
to carry on th eir work and open new services.
Support fo r the work has continued to come from a ll over
the world, the largest contributors being the churches of great
Britain and of Canada, and there is additional support, meeting
a substantial part of the Council’ s administrative cost, from the
Inter-Church Aid Division of the World Council of Churches as a
part o f its Service Programme.
Fin ally, there is the generous and long-maintained help of
the British Council of Churches, without which much of the joint
work would never have been possible - help with funds fo r pioneer
projects, support fo r existing once, and not least the support
of two o f the Council’ s s ta ff members. To the Director, Miss
Janet Lacey, C.B.E. therefore we express our very special thanks,
and to a ll who are helping the work in Hong Kong individuals,
church congregations, societies, and councils of churches - the
thanks of the Churches are due.

On Saturday, 26th September, 1964, we held a retreat at the
Christian Study Centre, at Tao Fung Shan, Shatin. During the
business meeting we heard a talk on the proposed United Christian
Hospital by Dr. E.H. Paterson. This met with considerable interest
and a resolution was passed to donate a suitable memorial to the
hospital when more concrete plans of the hospital are formulated.
Several members expressed th eir concern over the lack of contact
with non-English speaking, Christian medical graduates from China who
are in Hong Kong. It was fe lt that efforts should be made to have
them enter into fellowship with the Hong Kong Doctors’ Christian
Association.
A magazine with a "New Look” was published in September and
was received with favourable comments from a ll quarters, and the
lates word from the E ditorial department is that a 'second issue w ill
soon appear. This w ill again combine both Chinese and English
a rticles , with co-operation and assistance from the Hong Kong Christian
Nurses Association.
A family meeting was held on Saturday, 23rd January at the
Nethersole Hospital, and the children were shown a film , "The Hidden
