Showing fo r the year 1964 totaled 830, averaging 2.5 shows per
day. In 1963 the tota l number of shows was 886. Thus, in spite of
our increased public service showings at the prisons, which added
43, we f e l l short by 56 showings of the previous year. Use by schools
is good, but the churches have dropped o ff by 50 compared to 1963.
We need more support from loca l churches.
Films loaned out in 1964 increased by nearly 40 over 1963. The
use o f film strips increased from 213 in 1963 to 274 in 1964. Since
the lib rary has nearly 500 film strips they can be a great help to
the local churches.
Filmstrips are now being provided with tape recorded commentaries
to make them more easy to use. A snail tape recorder can be rented
to go with the film strip and tape. A ll can be gotten at 191 Prince
Edward Road address.
A new catalogue of film strips and film s is being processed.
This w ill lis t a ll the materials currently available. It is hoped
that the catalogues w ill be ready by mid 1965.
Monthly mailing have been begun te llin g about materials available.
I f you would lik e to be on th is l i s t , send your name and address to
191 Prince Edward Road, Room 401.
Workshops are being planned by the Sub-Committee on a ll phases
o f Visual aids, both projected and non-projected.
Broadcasting In August o f 1964 the broadcasting department
moved to its new and enlarged quarters on the third flo o r of Morrison
Memorial Centre. This is the Hong Kong Programming Centre fo r South
East Asia Radio Voice.
The period has been highlighted by the presence o f Dr. Bliss
Wiant whose services have been shared eith Chung Chi College. As
the result of his work we have had two sessions of a Christian
Musicians Fellowship. Working with the Council on Christian Literature
fo r Overseas Chinese, there has been republished a collection of anthems
formerly published fo r Yenching, a new collection of Hymn-Anthems arranged
by him from the Chinese tunes in Hymns of Universal Praise.
Ten of these anthems were introduced at the Great Chorale Praise
Service sponsored by the Christian Council, Chung Chi and SEARV on
May 22, 1964. The service was recorded and broadcast over the Chinese
Services of Radio Hong Kong. Now music from th is h istorica l ecumenical
praise service is available on a 12" LP record fo r HK$10.00. These
are available at a ll CCLOC outlets.
In November, AVEC was host to the fir s t BAVACO Workshop on com-
municating the Gospel through the Arts and Mass Media. There were
th ir ty leaders and delegates from 15 countries.
In addition to serving on the English and Chinese advisory
Committees fo r Religious programming on Radio Horg Kong, the executive
director of AVEC was also Acting Director of the South East Asia Radio
project follow ing the death of Dr. Henry Mack.
The studios are now in the process of preparing fo r regular SEARV
broadcasts which are expected to be inaugurated the end of this year.
