The Consultation proved stimulating, and out of the common
thinking came direction and help fo r future work of the Committee.
It also proved of great value in providing materials fo r follow
up work in the Churches. Miss Jean Chen (CCLOC) prepared an
excellent and comprehensive report of the Consultation which was
published in the Happy Home Magazine. A copy o f the issue contain-
ing the report was sent to a ll church ministers and workers and was
as widely distributed as possible. An interesting and valuable
visual aid was available in the poster designed by Rev. Siu Kan Wai.
This was used both at the Consultation and to announce the Christian
Family Sunday on May 10th and the Christian Family Meek follow ing.
Various forms of follow-up work were done in the churches such as
1. Conferences at which the Consultation materials was used.
2. Leaflets written giving the outline of the Consultation
materials.
3. Study and discussion groups organized.
4. Christian Family Institute held, which the whole fam ily
attended.
5. Talks given in churches, clubs, school, colleges.
Dr. & Mrs. David Mace, Co-directors o f the Marriage Guidance
Council (USA) visited Hong Kong in March and met the Committee
fo r consultation and discussion.
In October, Dr. Thomas Conley, a specialist in the fie ld of
"Reproduction Education" visited Hong Kong, met the Committee and
gave a talk illu strated by slides.
5. Church Unity Committee
During the year, the United Service o f Prayer fo r Christian
Unity under the auspices of the Council was held on Monday, 18th
January, 1965 at 8:00 p.m. at the China Congregational Church,
Hong Kong. About 400 people including 14 Roman Catholic friends
attended the Service. At the invitation of the Roman Catholic
Church, 8 people from our churches attended the Roman Catholic
Mass fo r Christian Unity, held on Thursday, 21st January at
6:00 p.m. at the Roman Catholic Cathedral Hong Kong. Another mass
fo r Christian Unity was held on 25th January at St. Theresa’ s
Church at 6:00 p.m. Several members o f the Council attended.
In this age o f increasing tensions in a world dominated by
disunity, fear and suspicion, the c a ll to prayer fo r Christian
Unity comes as a fresh challenge fo r reconciliation.
Co-operation with the Chinese Churches Union The Council in
co-operation with the Chinese Churches Union is publishing a
Christian Weekly which at present has a circulation of some 4000
copies. The Chairman and Secretary of the Committee serve as
Executive members of the E ditorial Board of the Christian Weekly.
By so doing, a c tiv itie s o f the Council and development of the
ecumenical movement around the world are made known to a ll members
o f local churches.
