                     Dear Eric,

I am writing to thank you very much for your warm hospitality during my
recent visit to Hong Kong. Starting with the banquet reception you co-hosted
with Archbishop Peter Kwong, to the lunch attended by your committee, and
the generous time you set aside for us, you ensured that our visit was a
success. Which indeed it was. I am also grateful for the opportunity to meet
with the Chief Executive ju st before our departure from Hong Kong. Your
presence in the conversation with Tung Chee-Hwa was exceptionally helpful
since he has a very high regard for you.

I will continue to treasure the time and encounters I had in Hong Kong even
though the visit was very brief. The conversation with the youth convinced
me that the ecumenical work in Hong Kong in general and the HKCC in
particular has a bright future. I wish you all the best as you continue to
celebrate the Council's 50th anniversary. We join you in rejoicing at God's
grace that has guided your work all these years. May the future of the HKCC
hold ever more success as you continue to serve the people of Hong Kong to
                     the glory of God.

This brings you warm greetings, also from Mathews George and other
                     colleagues in Geneva.

                                         Kindest regards,

                                                                  Samuel Kobia
