We are marching into a new century. Each one of motivate churches in exploring and planning related
us may have different expectations towards the actions for the coming year in response to the
future. Obviously the people of Hong Kong may still recommendations made by the 21 st Century Mission
anticipate a better tomorrow having experienced the Consultation. In addition, it is also our responsibility
joyous moment of Millennium celebrations, but in to build a positive attitude toward moral values
reality people in the society are suffering and in among Hong Kong people, and to provide spiritual
distress. During these months, people from all
enrichment for the society. The society will be a
walks of life and even professionals (such as social better place to live if our churches can facilitate
workers, doctors and teachers) held processions and different kinds of activities aiming for spiritual
demonstrations. They expressed their discontent nourishment through our ministries.
about Government policies, and the poor
administration that has hindered the public good.
In fact, the level of discontent and frustration is
          increasing.

We want to ask whether the outcome is an
unavoidable phenomenon when changes take place
in the society or, as some said, that our society is
          sick!

When Jesus saw the crowds, he had compassion for
them, because they were harassed and helpless, like
sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his
disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers
are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send
out laborers into his harvest." (Matt. 9:36-38)

Today those who are wandering around us are also
harassed and helpless. Maybe they are those who
have suffered from a drop in income because of the
change in the economic environment, or newcomers
who have not yet been accepted, or marginalized
people who lack survival skills, or the victims of
broken families, or one who is lost in this
materialistic world. We hope the Church of Hong
Kong will follow the footsteps of our Lord to give our
strength and resources to those who are struggling.
Let them partake of God's mercy and love as we been
taught to find the lost sheep and lost coin with all
           our effort.

In conclusion, I hope the churches in Hong Kong will
focus on the needs of the marginalized and help
