           10. Expansion of the Council
During the year the Christian Council had to expand again to meet
the ever-growing needs of the Community. The following new Committees of
           the Council were set up:-

                        Standing Committees:

                                       Christian Education Committee

          B. Work of Standing Committees

           1. Christian Citizenship Movement Committee
The population of Hongkong is growing at an alaming rate. While
t h e churches are concerned about housing, food, medicine, education and
recreation, we do not forget the importance of the moral problems of our
society. During the year we have been trying hard to use radio talks,
publications, citizenship cartoons as media of mass education.

In April from 5th to 7th, the Committee in conjunction with the
Wah Kiu Yat Po sponsored a photographic contest and exhibition on the
theme of "Good Citizenship" in an effort to arouse social consciousness
and to encourage a sense of responsibility among the citizens, especially
           the young people of Hongkong.

Subject matter of all pictures were closely related to the theme.
The Contest was open to all keen photographers. There were some three
hundred entries and about 100 were selected for the exhibition.

Lady Black was asked to perform the opening ceremony and to
           d i s t r i b u t e the prizes on the 5th April, 1962, at the City Hall. It
was estimated that more than ten thousand people came to view the
exhibition which was very w ell attended throughout these three days.

We thank God that we are able gradually to put some of our
plans into execution despite our meagre resources.

           2. Ecumenical Scholarship Exchange Committee
Behind the work of this Committee lies the realisation that the
common life of the Churches in all lands may be greatly enriched by an
exchange of potential leaders, both men and women, during the course of
           their preparation for life service.

The chief purpose in awarding Study Places abroad is to prepare
men and women for a more effective ministry in their own churches, and
every award must have the approval of the candidate’s Church.
