changes. Yet, that is no excuse for inaction. "... You give them something to eat"..."Bring them here to me." Do
Jesus' words prod us? All we have to do is to reach out a little, make ourselves available and let the Lord work
miracles through us. In the past year, in shouldering responsibility, the Hong Kong Christian Council endeav
oured to join forces with local congregations in expressing our stand, in influencing public opinion, as well as in
serving and caring for the needy. Our effort may be small, but we can still bear wonderful witness to Jesus' grace.
Perhaps, that actualizes what the Bible says: "...now is the acceptable time; see now is the day of salvation!" (2
Corinthians 6:2) The tougher things get and the darker the night grows, the more we are compelled to act and to
let our light shine. The church takes up dual roles: i.e. the prophet and the servant. At the same time, we walk
side by side with our fellow citizens, following the example Jesus exemplified by living among His people. We
are to rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep, so that others can feel the compassion and
empathy of our Lord. May we pray to our Lord for building up our faith and strength so that we can spread the
message of consolation and express our concern for people suffering under the present adversity. May the
Church act in unity and harmony to bind us together with the masses in facing the current hardship. May we pray
for the best and for peace for Hong Kong, our beloved city.
