INTRODUCTION
As we begin this report fo r the A nnual General Meeting
o f the Hong Kong Christian C ouncil, there is a very con-
spicuous em pty place in our circle. It is the place o f our
late vice-Chairman, the beloved and treasured Dennis L.
Rogers. His pu blic com m itm e nt and involvem ent in the
ecumenical m ovem ent in Hong Kong is an inspiration to
all o f us w ho are s till to carry on. Dennis served ou r Executive
C om m ittee, as English Secretary fo r 4 years, and 4 years as
ou r vice-Chairman. We thank God fo r sending him to us
w ho w orked u n tirin g ly in this part o f the L o rd ’s vineyard
fo r tw e n ty years. Our greatest trib u te is sim ply to say that
we miss him .
One o f our satisfying accom plishm ents during the
year has been the publication o f "T he Message’’,our regular
lin k w ith the to ta l fellow ship o f the Council. We have long
know n tha t we needed to im prove our lines o f com m unica-
tio n . 'T h e Message" in its short period has brought many
appreciative and encouraging responses to ou r office .
S till another plus fo r the year has been the strength-
ening o f our W omen's W ork Com m ittee. The com m ittee is
little over a year old. In Hong Kong we have no branch o f
Church Women U nited. O ur W om en’s W ork C om m ittee fills
this void. This year has seen this com m ittee members attend
Asia Church W om en’s Conference’s training seminar in Korea
and conducting local seminars and meetings to strengthen the
role o f wom en here in Hong Kong.
