【Indication】 |
Bei Mu Gua Lou San is intended for patients with coughing due to dryness-phlegm. The symptoms are cough, phlegm that is difficult to expectorate, and a dry throat. The tongue coating is white and dry. |
【Pathogenesis】 |
This pattern is caused by dryness-heat damaging the lung and consuming yin fluids. Dry heat burns the lung fluids, forming dry-phlegm that blocks the lung qi and leads to cough. The dryness damages body fluids and is manifested as cough with the phlegm difficult to cough out, dry and painful throat. The white and dry tongue coating indicates dryness-phlegm. The treatment is to moisten the lung and clear heat, rectify qi and dissolve phlegm. |
